Jen’s Review

First off, if you haven’t started reading Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux Series, don’t waste another second. Go grab the first book now…I mean it! Go! Okay, back to the review. When I finished Opal, the third book in this terrific series, I literally screamed out loud. Talk about a cliffhanger.

Seriously, what the heck, Armentrout? How could you do that to us, huh? The shock, the disbelief, the pain…AHHH! I didn’t think I was going to be able to wait for my copy of Origin from the library. (I was like 200-billionth on the wait list…okay, more like 50, but still!)

Well, I’m happy to announce my torture has finally ended. I now know what happens next in Katy and Daemon’s tumultuous, romantic, action-packed saga…But, don’t worry, I won’t tell you. I wouldn’t want to ruin any of the surprises 😉 I will say Origin lived up to my expectations and matched the quality of the first three books. It also kept things moving along. Sometimes when a series is longer than a few books I feel it has a tendency to stall out at some point. The plot halts to a grind and the characters stop evolving. Not so for the Lux series. Every book so far, including Origin, has kept things progressing.

And, just like its predecessors, Origin was filled with plenty of alien awesomeness, numerous twists and turns, and countless heartwarming and heartbreaking moments. Trust me, as you’re reading, you’ll feel angry, happy, sad, relieved, giddy, furious…Origin is a roller coaster ride of emotions that’ll have you all over the place until the last page.

If you’re a fan of the Lux series, Origin won’t disappoint. And if you haven’t picked up this series yet, go get started. It’s fun, easy and thoroughly entertaining!

Jen’s Review

Once again, Jennifer L. Armentrout delivered! She is officially one of the best series authors I’ve ever read. She clearly understands how to build upon an existing story, develop characters in a likable way, and keep a reader vested and thirsting for more. In fact, I’d say Armentrout’s books only get better and better as a series progresses. I saw this in her Lux series, and now I’m seeing it in her Covenant series.

Now, as for Deity…I’m going to keep it short and sweet. I loved it. There was plenty of laughs, plenty of action and plenty of heartwarming (and breaking) moments. There was also resolution to a couple of central conflicts that needed to be resolved by this point. One of my book pet peeves is when an authors drags out a conflict for-evvvv-ver; almost like they’re afraid if they solve it, there won’t be any story left to tell. No problem with that here. The conflicts solved were replaced by new, interesting ones that drew me in to the story deeper, and increased my enthusiasm for Alex’s harrowing tale.

When I reached the final page of Deity I was completely satisfied and eager to move on to the next in the Covenant series, Apollyon.

Confession: I’m a fanatical fan of authors

Forget rockstars. Forget actors. Forget pro athletes and supermodels. Forget all the mega celebrities out there. To me, an author is the biggest superstar of them all. And when I capture one’s attention on Twitter?

You got it. I FLIP OUT! I may as well have received a high five from the Queen of England herself. Or, better yet, a smooch from Channing Tatum…growl…

But I digress.

Let me say start out by admitting I’m new to the Twitter scene. I’ve only been on it for a couple of months now and I’m just getting the hang of it (er, sort of). When I first started following all of my favorite authors, I was too scared and/or shy to reply to their Tweets. Then I took the plunge and nervously started hitting the “Reply” and “Favorite” buttons. My expectations for a response or acknowledgment of any kind were low. Honestly, they still are. Authors are popular and busy. They can’t reply to everyone. However, I have received a few responses (as seen in the evidence below, thank you very much!).

Since that brief yet awesome exchange, my confidence has grown and I’ve started replying to author’s Tweets more often. Two weeks ago, I hit the jackpot again when Jennifer L. Armentrout responded to one of my replies to her:

Of course, nobody in my personal life understands these giggly, gushing, borderline fanatical responses of mine. They look at me like I’m a mysterious specimen that comes from another planet. Whatever, I don’t care! As a genuine lover of books and an aspiring author myself these Tweets are precious to me and keep me smiling for days and days.

Authors have and always will be my heroes–my role models. And I’d take them over any other celebrity on this planet. Even Channing Tatum 😉
