Music Monday – I Feel Everything – Idina Menzel

Welcome to Music Monday! As many of you know, music contributes a great deal to my writing process. Whether it’s a song’s lyrics, beat, rhythm, or tone, I find myself constantly inspired by it.

writing-to-musicSo, I haven’t been doing a ton of writing the past week. I’ve been mostly reading and critiquing stories on the NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge forum.

However, after watching Idina Menzel perform the National Anthem last night during the Super Bowl, I decided to share one of my favorite songs of hers. For years, “I Feel Everything” has been on almost every “book” playlist I’ve created. No matter what story I’m living in, this song inspires me.

*A funny/ironic side note: This morning, while writing this post, I got a notification that Taye Diggs started following me on Twitter. After an “OMG!” fangirl moment, I almost deleted what I’d written and chose a different song. But then I thought, “Yeah, like Taye Diggs is going to 1) visit your blog and read this post and 2) care you chose one of his ex-wife’s songs to spotlight.” And if he does…er…sorry! I’m too swamped to start over with a different song–ha! Plus, I love “I Feel Everything” and I want to share it with you.

41TUgArKtyL“I Feel Everything” is brimming with emotion and power. In fact, whenever I’m writing a scene that revolves around rage, revenge, or a big fight, I’ll blast this song (usually a few times in a row). It’s one of those songs where the more you listen to it, the more it moves you.

And, of course, the lyrics are amazing and always give me something to use to add depth to a plot or character.

When you can’t be touched
When you can’t be loved
When you fall apart
When you have no heart
I feel everything
