Welcome to Music Monday! As many of you know, music contributes a great deal to my writing process. Whether it’s a song’s lyrics, beat, rhythm, or tone, I find myself constantly inspired by it.
Over the weekend, I officially began working on my new novel. I didn’t make nearly as much progress as I’d hoped–mostly because I had to spend half my time getting in the right frame of mind. And by the right frame of mind, I mean silencing my sanity and letting my inner crazy come out.
To help draw out my “cuckoo” side, I listened to Eminem and Rihanna’s “The Monster”. It’s perfect inspiration for creating characters who are off their rocker.
As you might suspect, my favorite part of this song is its chorus. Simply put, it’s awesome. The lyrics capture the right message, tone, and feeling I’m striving for when developing insane protagonists.
I also like the lyrics because they can be taken multiple ways, depending on the story you’re writing. For example, during my last novel, my protagonist wasn’t crazy, but her actions could be considered crazy by those around her. To help me develop the scenes that addressed this conflict, I listened to “The Monster”.
So, if you’re looking for a song that inspires insanity of any kind, give “The Monster” a listen!
What song(s) are you in love with right now? Which one(s) offer you inspiration? Let me know! I’m always searching for songs that motivate my writing.

Oh yeah, I see that working for your novel based on what I know.
This one may not be quite crazy enough, but it has a great falling down the rabbit hole feeling for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c45a8Htv3c0

I can see why this song would help with insanity inspiration. 🙂 I’m still battling to stay on track so I’ve taken to listening to Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet to quiet my mind. (I know- far cry from Eminem, right? lol)
