Welcome to Music Monday! As many of you know, music contributes a great deal to my writing process. Whether it’s a song’s lyrics, beat, rhythm, or tone, I find myself constantly inspired by it.
Last week, while reading and critiquing stories for the NYC Midnight Flash Fiction Challenge, I found myself explaining to a few writers how I believed a suspense should be written. I couldn’t always find the right words to support my tips and advice, so I decided to send them one of my favorite songs from the Braveheart soundtrack: Mornay’s Dream.

So, if you’re looking to listen to a song that’s all about suspense, give “Mornay’s Dream” a listen.
What song(s) are you in love with right now? Which one(s) offer you inspiration? Let me know! I’m always searching for songs that motivate my writing.

I’ve talked to a few writers who say that music doesn’t really work for them and I don’t quiet get it. Music sets a mood, a tempo of sorts. I even explained a bit about that in an article recently. I am not able to listen to music much but I can listen a little then have that bit in my mind for a while. John Legend works, Made to Love has a good sound to me. And Gorilla by Bruno Mars is another one that is a bit of an odd choice for me in that there is some content that is not to my liking but I like the music itself.

I’m a Bruno Mars fan too. I was obsessed with “Grenade” forever. Powerful lyrics.

I always write to music when writing short stories, nothing else, just short stories. It seems to give me the inspiration to write the story. I think I’ve said before that Dreamland by Robert Miles is one of my favourites to write to and it still is! 🙂 For some strange reason this album just seems to bring out all the creativity in me. I also wrote a recent post titled ‘Living By Number’ which is a song title by New Musik. Just listening to that song produced the post and, since then, I’ve not be able to stop playing the song.

I actually listened to Dreamland and really enjoyed it! I’ll have to check out “Living By Number” next. Thanks for the tips!
